Highlights of Season 1 of the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament

Known for highlighting some of the most outstanding poker players of today, the poker superstars Invitational Tournament started its very first season in 2005, where it paraded a unique brand of highly competitive, exciting, and non-stop poker action. Aside from its effective and enticing tournament format and structure, this event brings in an ultra high level of poker competition. With only eight participants who signed up for the first installment of this poker tournament, it paraded a structure that is very different from that of the latter seasons.

In season 1, eight major players from the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker gathered in one ultimate showdown between the most popular poker champions in the world. Poker superstars such as T. J. Cloutier, Johnny Chan, Doyle Brunson, and Barry Greenstein are highly skilled competitors that make up the upper half of the pack. Completing the line-up of spectacular poker players are Phil Ivey, Howard Lederer, Chip Reese, and Gus Hansen.

The first season of the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament was subdivided into two series. During the first round of series 1, the eight contenders fought wisely in order to gain early advantage into the tournament. After it was all over, Lederer earned the top spot and is closely followed by Ivey. Meanwhile, Chan and Hansen owned the third and fourth spots, as Greenstein and Cloutier captured the fifth and sixth positions. The seventh and eighth positions, where are the worst spots in the tournament, belong to Brunson and Reese.

The second round of this series was just as exciting and fun to watch, with various twists and turns as well as momentum changes shifting from one outstanding poker player to another. This time, Hansen finished first, followed closely by Cloutier in the second spot, while Greenstein was third. Reese, Chan, Brunson, Lederer, and Ivey occupied the five lowest spots in that particular round of the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament season 1.

The first series closed out with one final match, with Hansen still making it on top of the competition. Johnny Chan owns the second spot while solo third belongs to Cloutier, overtaking Lederer who owns solo fourth. Reese finished fifth, Greenstein finished sixth, Ivey finished seventh, and Brunson owns the last place. After an exciting series 1, the play ensued and moved on to the second series, bringing a spark of life and hope to the players who finished quite low during the first series.

At the second series, Lederer, who was able to redeem himself after a dismal performance in the previous series, captured the first round. Meanwhile, Greenstein made another impressive comeback after he bagged the second round of the second series. The final event of the second series was dominated once again by Lederer, who seemed to be doing well after winning the first round of the second series.

With the bevy of superstars parading themselves at the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament season 1, it was quite hard to tell right from the very start who would win the game. At the same time, it was unavoidable that someone would finish last in the tournament, despite the outstanding background of everyone present at the tournament. In the end, Hansen still emerged on the top spot, closely followed by Chan in second place, and Ivey in the third spot. Cloutier was able to hold on to the fourth spot, while Reese finished fifth overall and Lederer held on tightly to the sixth spot. Brunson and Greenstein finished at the lowest two spots.
