The Tournament Structure of the Poker Superstars Invitational Event in Season 2

After its successful debut season, the poker superstars invitational tournament used a different and more upbeat structure for its highly anticipated second season. Because of the difference in the number of participants, changes in the tournament format are inevitable. While the first season included only eight championship players in the international poker circuit, the second season was more lenient, allowing a total of 24 players to compete in one great poker showdown.

Known for the additional thrill and excitement that it generally brings to poker, the blind structure was one of the major alterations in the second season of poker superstars. To make the games faster and more intense, the organizers have decided to implement increasing blind bets. Unlike in the previous season where the blinds are pre-set, the blind bets in the second season increase in value every 20 minutes. Just by looking at this major change, the improvement of the tournament can already be felt.

Aside from the blind bets, the qualifying round of the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament also improved a lot. The 24 outstanding competitors were then subdivided into four groups, where each group contains six participants that would compete with one another. To ensure the spirit of justice and fair play, the arrangement of players were randomly drawn.

At the end of each tournament, points would be awarded to the different players, depending on their finish in each table. A sixth place finish would give players zero points, a fifth place finish would give them a single point, and a fourth place finish would mean an instant three points. The upper echelon brings in more points to the players, giving third place finishers five points, second place finishers seven points, and the top finishers with 10 points.

After every player has completed six highly competitive preliminary tournaments each, their points would be accumulated in order to determine the top 16 players who would advance to the quarterfinal round. As the play continues, these set of individuals would be divided into four groups, which would then compete with one another. Unlike the first season of the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament were the starting chips are determined by their finishing spots, each of the top 16 would have to start with $25,000 each.

Aside from a new time limit rule, the final payouts for the players are also different. With a total prize pool of $1.2 million, the main winner for the second season of the Poker Superstars Invitational Tournament would be awarded $400,000. Meanwhile, the runner-up would automatically receive a decent $140,000. At the end, the second season can be regarded as an overwhelming success, with participants giving out their best to provide one exciting poker showdown.
